ScarWork Therapy at Wellness Rising
Releasing Trauma Held in the Body—One Scar at a Time
Scars tell a story—and sometimes, they carry more than just physical tension. ScarWork is a gentle, hands-on therapy that helps soften and integrate scar tissue, improving mobility, sensation, and emotional connection to the body. At Wellness Rising, we treat scars as portals to deeper healing.
What Is ScarWork?
ScarWork uses light touch and fascial release techniques to improve the quality, mobility, and comfort of scar tissue. It’s not massage. It’s a unique, non-invasive approach to restoring natural movement and reconnecting body systems disrupted by trauma or surgery.
Ideal for Scars From:
C-sections and other abdominal surgeries
Mastectomies, breast reduction and reconstruction
Radiation fibrosis from cancer treatment
Orthopedic procedures (knee, hip, shoulder, spinal)
Skin cancer resection, Mohs procedures
Burns, lacerations, and traumatic injuries
ScarTalk:
The psychological and emotional effects of scars
The primary cause of a scar, whether it is from a planned surgical procedure, radiation from cancer treatment or a traumatic injury from an accident, can leave another kind of scar that deserves equal attention. Illness, accidents, planned elective surgeries, and more can all leave an unexpected emotional impact. I haven't met a scar that didn't have a story. As a somatic therapist, I am skilled to hear the story your body holds and to compassionately hold space for the emotions that may emerge when working with a scar. Returning to and focusing on a physical remnant of an experience is bound to awaken some unprocessed emotions. Of course, this doesn't always happen and it is not a necessary part of ScarWork Therapy, but if and when emotions arise, I am fully committed to assist you with moving through them. I call this work ScarTalk.

Integrative Healing with ScarWork
ScarWork is often combined with:
Somatic Therapy for processing stored trauma
Occupational Therapy to restore functional movement
Reiki to support relaxation and energy flow
You are not your scar—you are a whole person.
We honor the full context of your healing.
