Welcome! I am Patti Daniel Iwer, a Holistic Occupational Therapist, Somatic Therapist, Reiki practitioner and an LSVT BIG clinical practitioner. My work is a culmination of many years of clinical practice and continuing education in a discipline that allows me to be a lifetime learner and educator.
When I graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1997, I could never have predicted the path my career has taken. During the first years of occupational therapy practice, I discovered great value in working with individuals to improve their life experiences through meaningful occupation and in group processes for support and validation from others experiencing similar challenges. My hospital practice allowed me to help empower clients with wellness skills through community outings, relaxation and visualization groups, breathwork, body awareness and individualized exercise plans. I learned that empowering clients with a sense of responsibility for their own healt and providing the needed skills for successful compliance was a practice from which I could find great professional satisfaction.
Following five years in a rehab setting, I had the opportunity to serve as director of assisted living communities in Charleston and across the eastern United States facilitating excellent resident care; educating and mentoring care staff; and providing support to individuals and families in the midst of making life-changing decisions about themselves or a loved one. During this time, I gained experience in counseling and educating families and caregivers how to provide compassionate care and how to find joy in small moments.
While serving in the assisted living industry was a tremendously rewarding experience, circumstances led me back to my roots and true passion for occupational therapy . My practice experience includes inpatient rehab hospitals, outpatient clinics, mental health care, home health, and serving the community making house calls. I currently provide services through my company Wellness Rising LLC where I provide a safe environment, a compassionate listening ear and a skill set that serves clients who are seeking more meaningful and productive life.
The integration of occupational and somatic therapies has fulfilled my desire to bridge the gap between a traditional medical model of practice and complementary and integrative practices within my clinical scope for an enriching and unique experience to health, healing and wellness. My life and career path have given me a deep understanding of how the stresses of daily life, past trauma, anxiety, chronic pain and illness and the drain of major life roles can impact a person--mind, body, emotions and soul. My approach provides a safe, compassionate space for clients to connect with the healing powers we all hold. This work can open you to a new way of thinking and being and lead you on a path to healing, health and wholeness.
