In fact, your body holds wisdom that could unlock valuable messages!  Body-centered therapy or somatic therapy is an  emerging field of practice that exemplifies the deep connection of body, mind, spirit and emotions. Somatic therapy draws from the belief that the mind manifests through personality traits, expressions and thoughts as well as body posture and habituated movement patterns, gestures and tension.  It explores sensations, emotions and deep knowings of the body that lead to powerful self  healing from trauma, injury and illness. 
Somatic therapy is a talk-touch approach to healing, health and wellness. Through increasing somatic awareness with a gentle touch, humor, insight, therapeutic dialogue and compassionate, skilled listening you can tap into the rich resource of information your body holds. This information can be a helpful guide to healing and wholeness. The discoveries can lead to the release of long-held beliefs  and misconceptions placed by past traumas bringing peace, ease of movement, less pain and stiffness, and an improved sense of balance and clarity.
​We feel emotions in our body and tuning in to these sensations allows us to do deep emotional work.  Your "relationship" to emotions is unique to you and understanding that relationship is an important part of the healing process. Your emotions, body, mind, and spirit are inseparably linked and touch has the power to engage all of these dimensions. ​Somatic therapy is a healing modality that uses the wisdom of the body to heal mental and physical health conditions from past traumas. I believe that both physical and emotional illness, injury, or insult can settle into the body where it can become chronic pain or illness and/or it can alter the nervous system in ways that create unhealthy stress, anxiety, and further mental and physical health conditions at a cellular level. I believe that by healing emotional injury, we can also heal the condition it has caused in the body.
The somatic therapy I offer is a mind-body-soul modality that uses touch, talk, laughter, curiosity, and sometimes tears to find and heal such injuries. Most people who experience somatic therapy say it is grounding and leaves the body feeling lighter and easier to move. The work acknowledges the body's role in healing instead of relying on the brain to always guide us. The brain is skilled at things like logic and reasoning, denial, and looking the other way. It can tell our story with a twist that works for us in the moment just to make us feel better or to avoid shame or guilt. The body, however, always tells the truth.
